…and other blood products too. I was at the BloodCenter of Wisconsin yesterday to donate my platelets. We always hear about whole blood donations, but not so much about platelets. Platelets are real important too, especially since platelets only last for FOUR days after being collected. Platelets are especially needed by cancer patients and organ donors. It does take more time to donate platelets, but hey, they’ve got a library of movies for you to choose from, if you want to watch a flick while you donate.
When you donate whole blood, not every person can receive your blood, but EVERYONE can use your platelets. So, if you’re not fearing needles, please consider giving up around 2 hours of your time and donating your platelets a few times a year.
