behind the scenes: on assignment.

Recently had another great opportunity to photograph for MyMidwest, the inflight magazine of Midwest Airlines. For this shoot, I was photographing Jesse Graves, a local artist who is getting a reputation for his mud stencil artwork. See more examples of his work HERE.

We were pretty happy that Our Milwaukee member, Alterra Coffee, was kind enough to let Jesse put some of his stencils on their exterior walls. Though I can’t share my photos with you yet, I can share with you a few photos that my friend and fellow photographer, Kurt Kamka, made. He wanted to come along on an assignment, and photograph me at work. Here are some of the results. See more of Kurt’s work HERE.

For this assignment, I worked with a Leica R8+DMR (19mm, 35mm, 60mm lenses), a Calumet 4×5 camera with 240mm lens, a Sekonic light meter, Pocket Wizard triggers and a Quantum T2 QFlash.

Jesse is going to be doing a two-day workshop at UWM on his techniques soon. Here’s the catalog description:
Eco-Street Art & Mud Stencils (look to the bottom of the linked page for his info)
Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April, 25 from 12:30pm – 2:30pm
In this 2-day workshop students will learn about the growing movement of street art that is created with the environment in mind! We will discuss and learn to use environmentally-friendly materials and reclaimed materials to create our own street art. Topics include guerrilla gardening, moss graffiti, anti-graffiti, and mud stencils!
