2 days, 200+ miles, 3 non-profits

Last week, before the New Year’s holiday set in, I had the great opportunity to visit with and photograph three south-east Wisconsin non-profits. I was photographing on behalf of Forward Community Investments, a neat organization who I wrote about here.

Salli Martyniak, president of Forward, had won my “Day Without a Creative Fee” auction at the WI Partners for Sustainability this past spring. I was photographing organizations that had enlarged their non-profit missions through the assistance of Forward Community Investments. Forward will be using these images for their marketing purposes, to showcase how they can help a nonprofit grow through low-interest community investments.
The first organization I visited was the Urban League of Madison. The League’s mission is “To improve the social and economic conditions of African Americans, other people of color, and the economically disadvantaged in our community.” With the help of Forward CI, the Urban League has built and is in the process of moving into a brand new building on Madison’s south side.
The next organization I visited, was a Beaver Dam food pantry, operated under the Wisconsin Community Action Program Association. Here I got to see the staff and volunteers as they distributed food to area families in need.
The final organization I visited was the Milwaukee Community Service Corps. Their unique mission is to serve as a “vocational training organization providing employment, education and life skills training to young adults in Milwaukee.” With Forward’s help, the MCSC has bought an old bank building which they have refurbished. That building will serve as an office for the MCSC and as a rental office space for other community organizations.

My donations of a “Day WIthout a Creative Fee” has now resulted in photography being done for RP’s Pasta, Beier Drums, Forward Community Investments and (soon) Quorum Architects and EMCS Civil Engineering!
