MKE Creatives: Feb 2016: Love-In at Draft & Vessel

February’s meet-up was a new sort of one for us at MKE Creatives. Normally, we meet at Anodyne Coffee in Walker’s Point – a cool local business on the south side that has hosted us since we began back in March 2014. This month though, we met  in the evening, at Draft & Vessel, a locally-owned craft-beer bar on the north-east side of town. It’s worth noting that BOTH these businesses are members of Local First Milwaukee, the “buy local” alliance of MKE!

If you haven’t been to D&V before, you really should check it out – it’s small, but they’re growing their space. There’s plenty of unique beers, most you’ve probably never heard of before. You can drink by the glass, or you can get a growler filled, too.

There were some really spiffy creatives in attendance this night. I met Andrea Thompson, who is putting together the first MKE Women’s Film-Fest. I got to chat with Boris Pelcer, an amazing illustrator, and caught up with The Skrauss, our bon vivant of the avant garde bent . Eliza Madison was there, too, and gave away some of her “saucy, nerdy, contemporary” romance novels. There were two local politicians in attendance, too. Incumbent Shorewood Trustee, Tammy Bockhorst, and candidate for MKE Circuit Court Judge, Jean Kies (make sure to show your support for them on April 5) came by to show their support for Milwaukee’s creative professionals! There were photographers, graphic designers, illustrators, and visual fine artists.

We plan to do at least two more evening events this year, so check the schedule for all the details!
