Last week was the Oct MKE Creatives meet-up, and it was GREAT! Kristine Hansen, local travel writer, wrote a brief recap to share, and Johnny Marszalkowski and I provide some photos (see below)!

I arrived at 10:10 a.m. for MKE Creatives’ October meeting (held Oct. 8)
and was stunned to see our little meeting space already packed. The energy
was as good as a shot of espresso might do! Sunlight spilled through the
south-facing windows at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company’s Walkers Point
location as we chatted in small groups about our current projects. Even
though our group represents a variety of skill-sets – photography,
writing, videography, graphic design, website creation, game development
and marketing – there is a common thread in that we love what we do and
must truly put ourselves out there to get work.

After that informal chit-chat, followed by introductions, Charity Harvey dived into an inspiring presentation about
how she built her aerial art-yoga business, and how this benefits
creativity. Located in Milwaukee’s Third Ward neighborhood, Aerial Art strives to inspire entrepreneurs and
mind-body lovers alike with her practice blending yoga, breathing and pole
dance (which she thoughtfully calls aerial art). She offers five different
classes plus an open studio. While the practice has so far been attracting
women, Charity made the point that men are more than welcome, and passed
out cards for a free lesson within 10 days of our meeting. (Did you end up
taking the lesson? Consider sharing your thoughts at our next meeting.)

MKE Creatives’ next meeting is at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Gretchen
Mead, of Victory Garden Initiative, will share her story about
transforming a small group of radical activists into a fundable non-profit
organization, and how that affects creativity.
