MKE Creatives: July: Aurelia on contracts

(our latest MKE Creatives write-up, written by the talented Kristine Hansen…)

On the Hump Day after Independence Day, MKE Creatives gathered at the usual meeting spot – Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company (http://www.anodynecoffee.com) — to talk shop. Aurelia Schultz (http://www.schultzlaw.us), who has been a steady member since our launch last year, gave pointers about contracts … what to sign, what NOT to sign, and how to draft a contract. I found the information very empowering and am excited that she is the first of our very, very informal “guest speakers.”

Here is a quick run-down of each member’s updates, including recent projects.

Freelance writer Jenny Fink (http://www.jenniferlwfink.com) is penning articles for Scholastic Instructor and Scholastic Administrator, as well as decoding medical news for another publication.

Freelance writer Heidi Jeter (http://www.heidijeter.com) just launched a new website and is open to comments. She is also beginning to build her client base.

Freelance videographer Johnny Marszalkowski (http://www.orphonic.com) is branching out into – wait for it – funerals. He’s also filming at Moth, an impromptu-reading series held the third Thursday of the month at Miramar Theatre on Milwaukee’s East Side. Wedding season is keeping him busy.

Freelance writer/editor Nicole Sweeney Etter (http://www.nicoleetter.com) is working on an annual report for a college.

Copyright attorney Aurelia Schultz (http://www.schultzlaw.us) just helped a local musician copyright his songs and albums, some dating back to the 1970s.

Storyteller Paul Akert (http://www.santapaul47.com) is performing at Bristol Renaissance Faire this summer. Look for him at the faire – he’s wearing a leather apron with a wooden dragon on it.

Freelance writer Kristine Hansen (http://www.kristineahansen.com) just got her second travel-story assignment for CNN.com and is working on a fun story about farmers markets too.

Freelance photographer Troy Freund (https://www.troyfreund.com) is in his third year as an instructor for a children’s photography workshop hosted by the Milwaukee Parks & Recreation. This week he has 19 students between the ages of 10 and 12!

Our next meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 10am-noon, also at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company. Hope to see you there! (and here’s the past MKE Creatives meet-ups!)
