Personal Work: Dia de los Muertos

This past Friday, on my way to an assignment for Mount Mary College, I swung by Walker’s Point to make some photos during the preparation of the Dia de los Muertos Parade. It was apparent what a photogenic event the parade is–there were LOTS of people there documenting the event in video and stills. I think I might have been one of few though, who was using a film camera! While there, I encountered two other photo-friends of mine–Jennifer Janviere and Jenny Bohr–both talented photographers. Ms. Janviere was kind enough to make my portrait and I made one of her too! In her photo, you can see my DSLR on my left shoulder and the camera I used to make these photos on my right shoulder.

I used a Fuji 645GS rangefinder–a medium-format rangefinder-style camera, with a moderate wide-angle lens on it. It really is a great camera and a very sharp lens. Everyone who was part of the parade seemed aware of the visual interest they were providing, as no one seemed to mind being photographed. Here are my favorite 4 images I made. The color image was made with my Nikon D200. Enjoy, and Happy Halloween!
