Endorsements for Tomorrow’s Election

UPDATED 11-02-10, 6:19 a.m. Rachel and I got out to Tom Barrett’s last rally, last night at 10:00p.  If I wasn’t completely sure of Tom before, I sure am now.  We heard his speech, full of optimism and hope for WI and it sealed the deal for me.  Go Tom Barrett for Governor!!

  • by the by, did you see yesterday’s haiku about the election?  Go see it here!

Hey Folks,

A short message to encourage you to make time to get out and vote tomorrow.  Anyone who knows me probably knows where my political leanings are, so I won’t bore you too much with why you should vote for Russ Feingold and Tom Barrett.  I will briefly suggest why you should consider them though…

RUSS FEINGOLD FOR WI-SENATOR

Russ Feingold has been a Senator for 18 years.  He IS the reason I became more interested in politics.  When he and McCain introduced the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Bill I was impressed.  Here’s a senator willing to work towards bipartisanship, who stands up for our rights, and who understands that corporations need to be kept OUT of elections.

A lot has been made about Feingold being in office “too long” and how “it’s time for a change.”  Has there been any good reason why his time should be up?  I haven’t heard one decent reason. Senator Feingold fights for what’s right, period.

He has worked to keep manufacturing jobs in the country.  In 2007, a provision of his was brought into law that mandated federal agencies to report what American-made and non-American-made purchases they had. Feingold was the ONLY senator to vote against the Patriot Act. Feingold helped craft the E4 Initiative to boost “green” jobs and improve building efficiency.

While not everyone may agree with every decision Senator Feingold has made, I will beg of you to consider his entire record and the multiple endorsements he’s received.  Senator Feingold has done much good for WI and for this country; I really think he deserves the opportunity to continue his good work.  More info here: http://www.russfeingold.org/

TOM BARRETT FOR WI-GOVERNOR

Tom Barrett has not been a governor before, but he has been mayor of Milwaukee, indicating an ability to work with all kinds of organizations and constituents.  I really appreciate his plans for encouraging growth in “green” jobs and in “keeping WI’s agriculture strong.”  Really, the best I can say for Tom is that he is a nice guy.  I’ve gotten to photograph him and see him in action.  He, like Russ Feingold, is one of the GOOD guys.  Please help me prove that good guys finish first. (I’m sure you’ve all heard about the incident last year where he got seriously hurt breaking up a domestic dispute. If that doesn’t sell you on his character, I don’t know what will)  More info here: http://www.barrettforwisconsin.com/issues

I’m hardly going to talk about his opponent for the governor’s role.  Let me just relate this anecdote.  Yesterday, I wanted to go look at Tom’s website so I could learn more about him.  I knew his Twitter name was “Barrett4WI” so I typed that into my browser, hoping it would lead to his website.  Instead of it taking me to Tom Barrett’s site, it actually lead to a Scott Walker website.  Scott Walker’s campaign had bought the domain “www.barrett4wi.com” and made it into a “bait-and-switch” website, funneling people to his own website.  This is dishonest and despicable.  The fact that Scott Walker would authorize such a thing tells me plenty about his character–he’s not above tricking people to get what he wants.

Finally, I know a lot of you are tired of election ads.  A lot of you might base your voting decisions on one or two issues, regardless of the rest of a politician’s stances.  I want to ask you to consider MY endorsement for Russ Feingold and Tom Barrett for tomorrows senatorial and gubernatorial elections.  If you know me and know my values, please also know that I don’t take talking about politics lightly.  I think these gentlemen are very much worth your vote.

They are so worthwhile that I spent 7 hours this past weekend, volunteering, canvassing and working the phones on their behalf.  See the haiku here and the canvassing photo here.

Thank you for your time and thought.

Sincerely,

Troy Freund
